Improving standards, systems & processes
The best Safety Management System (SMS) is only as effective as the people who use it. A Safety Management System does not ensure safety, people do. LJM works with organisations to deliver an SMS that is robust so that it underpins the overall safety improvement process and incorporates a focus on people into all its elements. We believe hazard and risk management, incident management, audits and inspections and consequence management are critical for sustainable safety improvements.
- Hazard and risk management
- Set up / review risk management system to ensure that employees are involved in the process of risk assessment and control (HIRAC, HAZOP, Human Error Models)
- Provide hazard identification and risk assessment tools that are based on employee engagement
- Develop and deliver hazard and risk management training at all levels.
- Incident Management
- Improve the existing system to make sure there is a comprehensive process for managing incidents from immediate response to lessons learnt and managing the return to work process
- Use the Incident Management Process for continuous safety improvement
- Offer independent expert input / advice in incident investigations
- Provide tools and techniques to include in incident management a focus on the behaviour of people.
- Audits and Inspections
- Establish processes involving managers and employees to monitor and positively reinforce safe work behaviours
- Fulfil external audit and inspection capabilities, tailoring the audit methodology to suit the organisation's requirements.
- Consequence Management
- Develop principles-based programs to encourage behaviours the organisation wants to promote and discourage unsafe behaviours
- Identify appropriate forms of recognition and disciplinary measures to ensure that behaviours have consistent consequences across the whole organisation.
